ATN's PS28 Night Vision Front Sights

The PS28 device is a night only, clip on - off, front site and comes with a near IR illuminator.

It must be mounted in front of your day scope. That allows you to keep your day scope zeroed on your weapon.

The site does not have a reticle because you will use the reticle of your day scope. It is guaranteed to change your weapon's POI ( point of impact ) no more than 1.5 MOA ( minute of angle ).

Ideally with this device an operator would have a day scope with a lit reticle or dot for daylight, dusk and dawn viewing. The PS28 would then be attached after dusk when it has become dark.

It will not work with a day scope which has a front focal lens.

The center of the tube is 1.5 inches above the rail. There fore you may need risers to raise this sight or your day scope so that the height to the center of both devices are within 3mm of each other.

Night vision and light levels.

  • Night vision requires some light (moonlight, starlight, the IR flash light, etc.) to operate. The level of equipment performance depends upon the level of light.
  • Starlight and moonlight are reduced by clouds.
  • Starlight and moonlight are also reduced by trees and buildings and anything else which creates shadows. Night vision is less effective when viewing into shadows and other darkened areas.
  • Night vision is less effective when viewing through the rain, fog, sleet, snow or smoke. Night vision will not “see” through dense smoke.
  • With night vision you only see shades of green or shades of grey depending on the type of display.
  • As with any night vision device, you are always looking for contrasts and movement.

  • CGT

    • The CGT type of Image Intensifier tubes are engineered for significantly enhanced performance over current 2nd generation IITs ( image intensifier tubes ). The CGT IIT is a Multi-Alkali compact 18mm format MCP Image intensifier. Highlights of the CGT specifications are typical SNR of 16-22 and resolution of 45-54 lp/mm. CGT IITs are sensitive in a wide spectral band and thus provide good contrast in all scene circumstances.
  • HPT
    • 55 - 72 lines per millimeter resolution.

    • The HPT tube is an upgrade of the CGT Generation tube. It is a Multi-Alkali compact 18mm format MCP Image Intensifier. The HPT tube increases sensitivity, resolution, Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), and the Modulation Transfer Function (MTF). These improvements produce an exceptional image clarity and brightness. Most HPT specifications typically are equivalent to standard 3rd generation.
  • 3
    • 64 lines per millimeter resolution.

    • By adding a sensitive chemical, gallium arsenide to the photocathode a brighter and sharper image has been achieved over 2nd generation units. An ion barrier film was also added to increase tube life. 3rd Gen. provides the user with good to excellent low light performance.
    • ATN's 3rd generation image intensifier tubes are of the highest quality. They have a micro channel plate, GaAs photocathode, and a completely self-contained integral high-voltage power supply. These 3rd Generation tubes provide a combined increase in resolution, signal to noise and photosensitivity over tubes with a multi-alkali photocathode. Generation 3 is the standard for the USA military.
